How Yoga Can Support Anxiety, Stress and Support your Wellbeing

A Yoga class maybe recommended to attend if you are feeling stressed or anxious. This is because through the practice of yoga, meditation and moving with intention it can helps to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.


Is there a difference between feeling a bit nervous because you are new to something and don't know what to expect, than anxiety which could be heightened at the thought of even entering an unknown room and unknown people and if you have never attended a yoga class before, feeling particularly anxious or stressed the last thing you may want to do is attend a yoga class.

ITS YOUR FIRST CLASS. If you have plucked up the courage to attend a class, you could persuade a friend to join you for that first class and straight away you have that knowledge that you are more comfortable in the knowledge that you know someone else.


Let the teacher taking the class know that you are feeling a little nervous about joining. This is usual when doing anything new.


Any good yoga teacher will be understanding and you can take a rest when you need. It may be enough just to be in the room at the start and just do what you are comfortable with.


Initially it may be advisable join a slower paced Hatha Yoga class, Gentle breath centric class or even a chair yoga class where you are fully supported by a seat. There are many different styles of yoga out there but the are all derived from Hatha Yoga.


If you want to join a class get in touch, eveyone is very welcoming and there is never any judgement just be. There may be other people in the room with you but you have your own space on your mat. I usually have some spare props and blankets to help support you but you are can supply your own if you prefer. These are just aids to help you find space and comfort in your own practice and not necessary.
